Personal Health and Fitness… For Junk Food Lovers

Well, last week our personal health and fitness was the hot topic between me and my friend. My friend is just over 200 Pounds and love to eat so called the best food “ the junk food”.

He was complaining about how he has become the victim of high cholesterol level, high blood pressure and diabetes. Suddenly an article clicked in my mind which I read couple of days ago. I shared with him the differences between the food and activities what we eat and do now-a-days and the food and activities what our parents and their parents used to eat and do to maintain their health and fitness

I thought let’s share with you. I have changed a bit to make it more realistic. It is bit fun but there are many hidden tips and lessons about our food change that made us obese and lazy. This article is for junk food lovers and can be read by non-lovers too ?.

One friend was talking to his friend about why he cannot maintain his personal health and fitness. Why our forefathers or parents were more fit than we are. What is wrong with our food? Why we are becoming overweight? Why and why….

Our forefathers grew broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green / yellow and red vegetables of all kinds on the earth. so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

But now we have Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. Moreover, they ask “You want chocolate with that?” and Man says, “Yes!” and Woman says, “add some sprinkles on it”.

Result: They gained 10 pounds

Forefathers used to use the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And now-a-days they brought forth white flour from the wheat and sugar from the cane and combined them.

Result: Woman went from size 6 to size 14

Forefathers used, “Fresh green salad.” And now “Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side”.

Result: Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast (meal).

Forefathers used heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them. And now they brought forth deep fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter.

Result: Man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof


They used a light, fluffy white cake, named it “Angel Food Cake,” and said, “It is good.” Now-a-days we created chocolate cake and named it “Devil’s Food.”

Forefathers used to bring forth running shoes so that their children might lose those extra pounds. Now we gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels.

Result: Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds

Then they brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And now we peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them.

Result: Man gained pounds

Forefathers then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And now we created McDonald’s and its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, “You want fries with that?” And Man replied, “Yes! And super size them!” they also said, “It is good.”

Result: Man went into cardiac arrest

After research and development, they created quadruple bypass surgery and we created HMOs.

Thought for the day …..

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than On Alzheimer’s research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them. If you don’t tell five friends right away to read this, there will be five fewer people laughing in the world.

Well Balanced Moms Are More Fun or Have More Fun

Should I say “Well Balanced Moms Are More Fun or Have more fun”? Let me ask you… When was the last time you had lunch with some girl friends, well balanced healthy momsor went on a girl’s night out? When was the last time you went on a romantic weekend getaway with your spouse? If you can’t remember, we definitely have to talk.

It’s so easy to fall into the mommy guilt trap.

We feel guilty if we take time for ourselves, so we end up taking care of everyone in the family but us. It’s easy to lose ourselves in the quest to become Super Mom. Along the way we get stressed out and aggravated. It’s important to do something just for us to stay balanced moms.

Here are some ways for you to get started on your journey to rediscover YOU.

Get together with some girlfriends.  One of the best ways to rediscover yourself is to spend some time with your girlfriends each week. Have lunch together, go to the movies to watch the latest chick flick or plan a girl’s night out every once in a while.

If you are having a bad day, call one of your girlfriends to vent or just chat. You’ll be surprised how much better you feel and how it puts things back in perspective that seemed like the end of the world a few minutes ago.

Spend a romantic weekend with your spouse – anywhere but at home. Go away for a romantic weekend with your spouse a few times a year. Rekindle your passion for each other and feel in love again, instead just partners in dealing with the everyday “stuff’ involved in raising kids.

Go on a date every week. Get a sitter once a week and go on a date with your significant other. Spend some time reconnecting with each other. If you have an activity that you both enjoy, take a class together.

Pamper Yourself. Do something every week to pamper yourself.

Go get a new haircut. Visit your favorite nail saloon for a manicure, pedicure or to get your nails done. Call your favorite day spa and schedule a facial. Get a massage.

If you are on a budget, pamper yourself at home. Send Dad and the kids to the park. Take a hot bubble bath and paint you toenails. Honey makes a quick facial.Place a cloth in warm water and apply to your face to open the pores. Smear on honey, and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself a few times a week. Your kids will appreciate it when they get a balanced and fun mom in return. You will be more relaxed, happier and actually be able to enjoy your family. After all, that’s why you had kids in the first place, didn’t you?

Breast Cancer – How To Perform Self Exam?

 In general, all men, especially those over the age of 60 and the men that exhibit increased risks of developing breast cancer can minimize the potential for metastasis with early detection by routinely performing a Male Breast Self Exam (MBSE).  A monthly self-screening is strongly recommended.

Set aside A Date Every Month To Perform Your Male Breast Cancer Exam

 By scheduling a monthly date on your calendar to perform your male breast cancer self exam, it is easier to remember when the screening is due.  This allows for easier detection of any normal vs. abnormal breast changes.

 Perform Your Own Breast Self Exam In A Shower/Bath

 Start by running warm water in the shower.  Lather the breast area with either soap or shower gel to generate a soapy, slippery layer on the breast. This allows for an easier examination of the breast by allowing the fingers to slide easily over the skin without any rubbing.

 Examine The Texture Of Your Breast

 Begin your breast-self-exam for breast cancer by raising your left arm up above your head and rest your left hand on the back of your neck.

Using your right hand, place your index, middle and ring finger together and use these 3 fingers to examine the texture of the left breast. Start by placing the 3 fingers flat on the skin at the outer edge of the left breast.  Press down on the 3 fingers and slowly move the fingers in small circles around the entire left breast.

 Check Your Nipple

 Male Breast Cancer Self Exam -1Using your index and ring fingers on the right hand, gently squeeze the left nipple between the fingers and examine any signs of discharge, retraction (drawing inwards towards the body) or puckering of the nipple.

 Check Both Sides

To perform your male_breast_cancer_self_exam on the right breast, reverse your hands and repeat the procedures outlined in steps 3 and 4.

 Visual Assessment

 To complete your breast self exam, rinse the breast off and towel dry. Using a mirror large enough to view both breasts simultaneously, examine them for asymmetry.  Be aware of any changes in the skin of the nipple such as a rash, skin puckering and/or dimpling.

Types of Exercise for Cancer Patients by David

Some old fashioned doctors still believe that exercising while you have cancer isn’t a benefit to your health. The opposite is true, though, and many studies have proven it. 

Aim for a minimum of two and a half hours of exercise every week, even if you’re undergoing treatment for mesothelioma. When you’re feeling your weakest, this exercise can be extremely light. As long as you’re moving, you’re doing okay for the time being. When you start to feel stronger and healthier, increase the intensity and duration of your workout.

Many people don’t understand the different levels of exercise or how to fit them into your daily routine. Understanding the difference between light, moderate and vigorous exercise can make all the difference. You may be avoiding working out because you don’t think you can perform at certain intensity, when in fact you may be able to reap the benefits of exercise without pushing yourself as hard as you expect.

Moderate exercise activities include walking, biking, dancing, roller-skating, horseback riding and yoga. If you want more intense exercise, trying jogging, running, fast bicycling or a spinning class, circuit weight training, martial arts, jumping rope or swimming.


If you like to play sports, moderate sports include volleyball, golfing without a golf cart, softball or baseball, badminton, tennis or skiing. For more vigorous sports, try soccer, field hockey or ice hockey, lacrosse, racquetball, basketball or cross country skiing.

Some people need to incorporate exercise into their busy home life. Mowing the lawn with a pusher mower, gardening and cleaning the house all count as moderate or vigorous activity. Other people get exercise at their job if they work somewhere that they need to do manual labor, lift heavy objects or walk a lot.

Your ideal workout regime will combine flexibility exercises with toning and cardiovascular activity. Each type of exercise can be mild, but these three components are necessary for a well-rounded regime. Don’t work out the same muscle group two days in a row. Instead, engage in muscle building and toning exercises two to three days a week with at least one day in between.

During the height of your cancer treatment, don’t push yourself beyond what you feel comfortable with. For example, if you feel extremely sick from chemotherapy, wait two or three days until you feel a bit more like yourself. There’s a big difference between being too sick to push your body and feeling weak only because you haven’t been exercising. Learn the difference and listen to your body.

A Chinese farmer who had the biggest pair of male breasts ever seen, has reunited with his wife after an operation to remove them. Guo Feng, 53, said his unusual chest had made his life unbearable and his partner Jia Ling had moved out of their home because she could no longer bear the taunts from their neighbors. 

Mr Feng said: ‘About ten years ago my chest started to get larger but I didn’t think much of it as I was putting on weight all over. But in the last few years it had become unbearable.’

Reunited: Chinese dairy farmer Guo Feng is back with his wife Jia Ling. Mr Feng had an operation to remove the biggest pair of man boobs in the world.

The condition, known as gynecomastia, can affect men at any age and is usually caused by overeating or hormonal imbalances. Other rarer causes include kidney failure or genetic disorders.

The dairy farmer spent all his savings trying to get treatment before some sympathetic surgeons at a specialist clinic in Beijing took pity on him. They removed his breasts in a five hour operation for free.

male breast reductionHowever, the doctors are still baffled over what caused his breasts to balloon in size to such a Dr Zhang Lilan at the Jinan Chest Hospital in Beijing, said: ‘In my 30 years working here at the chest clinic I have never seen anything like it.

‘We wondered if he had eaten any poisons or contaminants but have found nothing after testing his blood. His genetic material is also normal. It is not a cancer. ‘It seems to be fatty tissue. The best we can suggest is that it is the biggest case of man boobs ever. We removed them and told him to eat less fatty foods in future and to have a healthier diet.’

Guo Feng finally prevailed on surgeons to help him after he developed a huge pair of breasts that made his life hell. Mr Feng is just relieved his decade-long ordeal is over. He had previously threatened to cut off his breasts himself if noone helped him.

‘I had bigger boobs then my wife – she got so many comments from our neighbours that she moved out to live with her mother,’ Mr Feng said. ‘It also made my work difficult. I have 20 cows on my farm. I sell the milk and butter at the market, and make about £120 a month. But things like milking and carrying buckets became quite hard. ‘If one of the calves got free and I had to run after it, when my boobs started heaving and bouncing.’ His wife has now returned to him together with their son LiWei.

Mr Feng said: ‘I think I’m the happiest man in the world right now, I know this wasn’t a lifesaving operation – I didn’t have cancer or anything – but I’m pretty sure there’s nobody who understands exactly how I felt. ‘My wife Jia Ling was being asked so many stupid questions by the other housewives whenever she went to the market. 

They would ask her if I still had anything, you know, down there. They told her at 40 she still had time to get another man. And with me having bigger breasts than her as you can imagine our sex life just vanished.

‘My son Xiaobo was 11 at the time – in middle school. He’d come home and say the boys were calling him the freak’s son. ‘The past few years have been hell – but now I can make a new start as a fresh man.’

Sleep Apnea or Snoring – Causes and Symptoms

Before I explain about causes and symptoms of sleep apnea or snoring, let me first explain what is Sleep Apnea or Snoring?

When I was searching for the data I found these simple definitions;

Sleep Apnea: Sleep apnea (AP-ne-ah) is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep. Each pause in breathing, called an apnea, can last from a few seconds to minutes, and may occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour. (Reference Wikipedia)

Snoring: Many children snore on occasion and about 10 percent or more snore on most nights. Snoring is a noise that occurs during sleep when the child is breathing in and there is some blockage of air passing through the back of the mouth. The opening and closing of the air passage causes a vibration of the tissues in the throat. The loudness is affected by how much air is passing through and how fast the throat tissue is vibrating. Children who are three years or older tend to snore during the deeper stages of sleep. (Reference NSF)

Let’s discuss further;

Occasional snoring may be normal to children. Recent studies show that 3 to 12 percent of children between the age of 1 and 9 snores. But frequency doesn’t mean normality. Habitual snoring can be a cause of a more serious medical condition called obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) or simply, sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by loud snoring with periods of breathing interruptions. Interruptions may be short or prolonged, usually between 5 to 30 seconds. During this period, the child’s could not get straight sleep. He rouses and moves to another sleeping position, then resumes sleep. After a while he will once again begin snoring. This activity often happens several times during the night, each night. Although this condition rarely appears on children, it is very important that parents should watch out for symptoms that come along with it.

Symptoms of sleep apnea include

Poor speech habits – talking that sounds like words over a mouthful of hot potato.     

Reduced growth rate. Children suffering from sleep apnea use more energy in breathing during the night. During meals, they tend to eat slowly since it is hard for them to breathe and chew at the same time. The result is, they have insufficient nutrients to support their growth.      

Hyperactivity. Lack of sleep can cause drowsiness on children during the day. To stay awake, children act frantically.      

Poor performance in school. Since children do not get the right sleep during the night, they tend to appear tired and lack the concentration to focus at school, thus, having a poor performance.

When these symptoms are visible, it is imperative for parents to bring their child to a pediatrician and have him examined. A child can be happy and smiling when he is brought to the doctor and therefore, it is difficult to diagnose if he really has sleep apnea. Parents are advised to record their child’s snoring so that the doctor can analyze the situation in actually.

Meanwhile, sleep apnea is not the sole reason why children snore. Other reasons include allergy attack, obesity, asthma, and enlargement of adenoids and /or tonsils caused by cold or tonsillitis.

Some allergy attacks can cause swelling on the linings of the nose that can direct to the enlargement of adenoids. This keeps the child from breathing normally. This causes the child to snore. After the allergy attack, the snoring stops.

Obesity can also lead to snoring. In fact, 20% and 40% of the obese children snore. This is because fats can form around the throat that can cause constriction and makes the limited airways. Also, fats in the stomach can cause the diaphragm to function irregularly Under development of the jaw inside the womb can cause snoring as well. There is also the possibility that the nerves and the muscles cannot control the airway properly and cause that child to snore.

Enlargement of adenoids and/or tonsils caused by cold or tonsillitis also results to snoring.  

While cold or tonsillitis can be cured by decongestant and antibiotics, adenoid enlargement is treated by surgical procedure to remove adenoids and tonsils.
Asthma is said to be another cause why children snore. A study revealed that 40% of the children diagnosed with asthma snore.

Maintain Your Fitness – Save Your Life

How fitness can save your life? Well it’s simple. Before I explain, do not confuse fitness with muscle building. If you are physically fit and active in your life that means you are saving yourself. Your physical fitness could reflect on your mental and emotional health. Fitness relates to physical activity.  Many people consider as trimming or muscle building or a daily marathon.  If you do a regular exercise (say 30 minutes) or a daily walk can help you keep fit.

Probably you have noticed, when you go to a gym or a fitness center, the trainers are frustrated with trainees who want to be fit but do not want to do as he/she is instructing. There is a wrong misconception that just buying a tread mill or Sauna belt or even taking supplements will do a magic and they will become fit.

I know many of my friends hiding their exercise equipment under the bed and use their treadmill for other purposes i.e. as a clothes hanger etc. Important is not just to buy an expensive automatic state-of-the-art treadmill, important is their use. You do not expect to be fit next day. It is not a magic.

Just watching TV, looking beautiful models who are selling gadgets on TV will not help you to be fit. People say “it’s not easy to be fit” but I say “it’s not that hard too”.  You have to be motivated and consistent to see the results of being fit, feeling benefits and seeing benefits.

So when I say “fitness can save our life” means you see many healthy benefits in your daily life. For example;

When you do an exercise, it has a direct effect on the heart. When you do physical exercise it increases oxygen supply to the heart, decreases oxygen demands and improves the strength of the heart muscle contractions.Physical exercises reduce the blood pressure.

If you have type 2 diabetics or you have family history of diabetics it is important to improve blood sugar levels and you can do it by doing regular exercise.The New England Medical Journal states in a study of over 84,000 middle-aged women, who exercised moderately or vigorously for 30 minutes a day, slashed their risk of heart disease by 80% (these women did not smoke cigarettes, were not overweight and maintained a healthful diet). 

When compared active people with in-active ones, sedentary people have almost double the risk of developing or dying from coronary heart disease.So the question is how to get started? Some tips to get you started;Make a checklist or get an exam before starting any fitness program.

Note down all activities you enjoy doing each day.Don’t expect fitness results to happen overnight. Start Slowly.A personal trainer will solve your problem of having in-consistency, lack of progressive program, lack of coaching and or self motivation.It is always recommended to start your program as a team. Invite a friend, spouse or family member to join you.

Program should have objectives or set goals. Setting goals will help you to see the trend or progress of your workouts.As I mentioned above, consistency is the key to your success. If you don’t your expected results don’t be frustrated. Do not stop your exercises. If you stop, you will never get the results. 

Results aren’t just how you look, its how you feel and your level of health.Do not take exercise as a burden. Just enjoy getting full benefits of it. Take it as a quality time of your life.

So instead of spending time reading this article or exploring more on the web, just make a plan, write down and follow. Make things simple at the beginning to get the real benefits.

If I, a lazy person can do then you surely can do as well. After all it’s your own life and your own fitness.

What you do not know is that it can be used to whiten your teeth. All you need to do is rub that white part on your teeth and it will give out a beautiful white shine.

These are some of the basic home teeth whitening methods that have proven their effectiveness in some parts of the world. Today, there are chemically made home teeth whitening products that you can buy and use.

The good thing about these basic home teeth whitening methods is that they do not come with the known side effects that over-the-counter products have. Plus they come in very cheap. You can try them out if you want to see if they work better than the products that you buy.

Causes of Bad Breath On Low Carb Diets

The latest dieting craze has no doubt been the Low Carb high protein diets. Those of you on Atkins, South Beach etc will no doubt have noticed a number of changes since you took up the diet. 

And no I’m not talking about the remarkable weight loss I am talking about your bad breath. Now it may not have been noticeable to you but I suggest you ask your friends or relatives whether there has been a deterioration and you may be surprised by the answer. In fact you may even find your friends moving away from you when you speak which is always a sure sign of bad breath.

So what’s the cause of all this bad air? Well depending on which medical speak you speak with there are a number, yet similar, reasons for the problem. One of the reasons is directly related to the increase in protein which most of the Low Carb Diets advocate.Basically, we all have a large number of useful bacteria living mainly on our tongue and at the back of our throat. 

These bacteria are supposed to be there, because they assist humans in digestion by breaking down proteins found in specific foods, mucous or phlegm, blood, and in diseased or “broken-down” oral tissue. When these “beneficial” bacteria come into contact with these compounds, the odorous and “lousy-tasting” volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs’) are released from the back of the tongue and throat, as Hydrogen Sulphide, Methyl Mercaptan, and other odorous and bad tasting compounds.Since the bacteria are meant to be in our mouth there is no way we can remove them permanently. 

So, no amount of brushing or tongue scraping will get rid of the VSCs’. The only scientifically proven way of curing your Bad Breath (Halitosis) is by attacking the bacteria’s ability to produce VSCs’ and by converting the VSC into non-odorous and non-tasting organic salts. 

There are a number of ways in which the problem is worsened and the most common way is with dry mouth. This generally occurs while you are asleep and hence the reason you sometimes wake up with “morning breath”.

Although some cases of dry mouth are naturally occurring, most cases are caused by one of these factors:

Prescription Medications (usually prescribed for high blood pressure or depression) Antihistamines Adult Beverages Mouth washes with alcohol in them
When your mouth is dryer, you have less Saliva. Saliva naturally contains Oxygen, which keeps your mouth healthy and fresh. 

These bacteria are anaerobic, which simply means that they will thrive and make more sulfur in the presence of little or no oxygen. Thus if you have less Saliva, you have less oxygen, thereby creating an anaerobic environment, perfect for the bacteria to produce more of these odorous and sour/bitter compounds.

Because of the increase in higher protein foods, on an Atkins type diet, especially dairy products, the amount of Volatile Sulfur Compounds increases dramatically and as such your breath gets worse accordingly. The only way to fight the problem is to try and supply oxygen to the bacteria causing the problem and remove as much of the VSCs’ as possible. This can be done in a number of ways:

Drink loads of water. This will help ensure your tongue and throat are kept moist and supplying oxygen to the VSC producing bacteria.

Always clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner before brushing your teeth last thing at night and first thing in morning. 

You should also try and do this after every meal too.Use a mouthwash which does not contain any alcohol as alcohol can dry your mouth and make the problem worse. You can also dramatically improve matters by using an oxygenating mouthwash. You can find one by doing a Google on “oxygenating mouthwash”. 

Don’t chew gum, which contains sugar, to try and mask the bad breath. This can make matters worse. Use a sugar free gum instead.

The bottom line is that low carb diets will, although for some it will be a lot worse than others. However, help is at hand so if you want to shed the weight and not shed any friends then make sure and heed the advice given above.
